End User Training
Good core team members are not always good trainers
A common resourcing approach on ERP projects is for the software vendor to train a select group of stakeholders in the customer organisation, the ‘core team’. The core team will then take key business decisions on the project and, prior to go-live they are often responsible for training other staff who will use the application. Of course, this approach is based on the flawed logic that, just because somebody is the right person to make key business decisions, they are also a competent and effective trainer. It’s a bit like saying that because you like parsnips you are also great at tennis.
We believe that better results can be achieved by letting professional trainers look after your end user training needs, leaving the decision makers to make decisions.
ERP users have other things to worry about
An inescapable fact of ERP projects is that the end users aren’t usually hired just to operate some business software. They nearly always have competing demands for their time and attention and, generally, they just want the new system to work for them with minimal fuss.
Over the years, we’ve learned some tricks to help us better connect with end users and to help them focus on just the things that matter. Part of this revolves around doing some detailed work at the Training Needs Analysis stage to make sure that people aren’t burdened with irrelevant messages. Another part of our approach is based on using the classroom training sessions as an opportunity to set up each user’s ERP environment in a way that will allow them to reinforce their learning with minimal fuss.
Training to fit your business, not just your systems
If you engage us to look after your End User Training needs, we’ll work with you to put together a programme that will fit your needs, expectations and budget. Over the years, we’ve trained over 1000 IFS users, so we have the experience and collateral to generate and deliver material efficiently, without needing to recycle standard courses. There’s no such thing as an ‘off the shelf’ user, so why would you provide an ‘off the shelf’ training programme?
